So I started my neuropathy treatment today. The woman that runs it is very nice. The process to fix the toe numbness is difficult to me though. I mean, really???
1. They are changing my vitamins. I’ve been taking Performix multivitamin with fish oil for the past 4 months and I thought it was great. Their vitamins are even better! I guess, I don’t really know. It’s 6 pills a day instead of 2. It’s $80 for a 2 month supply. Mine are $20 a month thanks to amazon. So that’s double what I am already paying so that sucks. I have to wait to get them until the doctor is back to make sure if I can take them with my stomach surgery.
2. They are changing my diet. The whole less calories in, more calories out won’t work for me since I have nerve issues is what I was told. So I have to start the Keto diet. Basically a shit ton of protein which is hard for me to process in the first place with my surgically altered stomach pouch. So that should be fun. I am only allowed a total of 20g of carbs a day on this. That’s not even one soda, it’s more like 1/4 of one.
3. I have to go twice a week for the next 6 weeks to have electrodes hooked up to my feet for 20 minutes each time plus I have to get shots next week as the doctor had his first grandchild this week so he’s not there. The electrodes are fine, they didn’t bother me. I hate shots but I guess I have to get them.
For all this, I paid 2 grand. This better work. I’m a bit depressed that I basically have to change my entire lifestyle because of a few nerves in my feet. Why me? They also gave me a book to read about what sugar is doing to our bodies. I’m having a hard time processing all this information and lifestyle change. I’m actually back at home. I can’t even deal with clients right this minute. I’ll go this afternoon, I just need some time.
So a frustrating and depressing morning. I am very thankful for my friend Alexx though as he said he will give me pointers since he’s been doing keto for a while. I am also thankful that I already follow a bunch of people on Instagram that are doing keto as well. I guess I should be happy that I am not diabetic and don’t have much of a problem exercising. This lady that came in as I was finishing can’t even exercise due to her feet nerves.
If you have any pointers, please feel free to share. What are your thoughts about the keto lifestyle?
Take care and be strong as always

Oh Julie, this is a lot for you to take on board right now. Take your time and ease yourself into it. I’m sure some proteins must be easier to digest than others. I hope there are bloggers who are able to help. Sending love and hugs โค๐๐โค

I have heard good things about the keto diet especially if you aim to lose weight. Tiredness, fatigue, stomach pains, and dizziness are common symptoms that the ketogenic diet beginner can experience, but these symptoms donโt come from a ketogenic virus.
In fact, the symptoms of keto flu are not even caused by ketosis, ketogenesis, or the flu at all. The keto flu is caused by the bodyโs response to carbohydrate restriction, so be ready for that.

Thank you! The only reason I am doing this is to heal the numbness in my toes. Losing weight is a nice side effect!

While I have never altered my diet on quite this scale, after taking a nutritional epidemiology class for my doctorate, I seriously rethought what I ate. And, yeah, processed sugar is hell on the body and exceedingly difficult to relinquish. I always know when I am really tired, because that is when I crave sugar.
I started to see a regular doctor for the first time in years when our first daughter was born (I was 41, after all), learning that I had high blood pressure and cholesterol–both of which are now under control (well, my triglycerides are still a bit high) thanks to medication and modest dietary changes. I resisted seeing a psychotherapist for YEARS, until I finally got overwhelmed in the summer of 2016. What a difference (thank you, Effexor) that made!
Change on this scale is exceedingly difficult. That you are making necessary changes for your health AND have the courage to share them is very impressive.

Thanks Matt. If I donโt want foot issues the rest of my life, I feel I have to do this.
Everyone needs a therapist at one point or another so Iโm glad it helped you. And yes, even if you donโt โneedโ a doctor all the time, you should have everything checked yearly because your body changes rapidly sometimes!
I am blessed to not have any additional health issues due to weight or diet although if I kept going, I could very soon!

None of my specialists can agree as to what is actually causing my neuropathy. I was diagnosed with diabetes at the same time but because I am only 39, the endochronologist refuses to believe it’s been caused by diabetes. However, the neurologist says nerves can be affected even just by insulin resistance over time. I have recently pieced together a long history of symptoms and I know I must’ve been insulin resistant since my teens. What I do know is that 12 months ago I was in CHRONIC pain and wished I could go to sleep and not wake up. When I cut out sugar, ate consistently (and the right things), the pain went away. The neuropathy is still slowly progressing but nowhere near what I experienced last year. I am also still chronically sleep deprived so that doesn’t help my particular situation. I believe if I was able to sleep a good eight hours (I can’t because my toddler wakes up every night and I’m a single mum) then I would be in even better health. I’m going to look closer at your posts and the vitamins you are taking. THANK YOU!

Well, wait until Monday when I go back so see if they give me their vitamins so you know what they are. I think the Performix womenโs vitamins are very good.
My toes have been going numb when I exercise so I finally went to the podiatrist. They asked me so many times if I was diabetic (which Iโm not) and now want to make me take the A1C test saying that the blood test isnโt always right. I told them no since that was a $600 test.
Iโm sorry that your diabetes has caused you so many issues before you are 40. Maybe itโs partly stress too. I am a single mom as well and we have a TON of stress!

Oh my goodness that is expensive! I have to say, the A1C is an average of your glucose over a period of time. When I wasn’t eating much, my A1C was normal so because it’s an average, it wasn’t picking up the lows and highs I must have been having. Do you know anyone who has a home blood glucose machine? Or could you pick one up? Testing your blood sugar at the start of the day and two hours after the start of each meal for a week might give you a good idea of what your body is up to.
I totally agree about the stress. The last three years have been the most stressful of my life. I also have Hashimotos (underactive thyroid – which essentially gave me no trouble for years until I was pregnant with my second) so I am unfortunately on the autoimmune train. I think stress is playing a massive role in everything.

Actually my mom has one and doesnโt ever use it. Not that I want to prick myself but why not test it? Thank you!
Thyroid issues are the worst!

I can’t tell you what the level should be because the measuring systems are different between US and Oz but I’m sure your mum would know if she has one. x

Be positive! I once quit sugar and it wasn’t easy! And by sugar, I mean all products that have more than 5% sugar! I fail at the first, but then I did it again and it was easy! Cause I was prepared mentally! And the best way is to make it a lifestyle, not a diet. But i’m kind of sucks in this ๐ I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS! You are TOUGH!
